H-1B Filing Fees

H-1B FILING FEES

Standard Filing Fee $460
  • Required for ALL petitions
  • Must be paid by the UW hiring unit
Anti-Fraud Fee $500
  • Required only for the 1st UW petition
  • Must be paid by the UW hiring unit
Premium Processing Fee $2,805
  • Optional fee
  • Guarantees that USCIS will take action on the case within 15 calendar days of receipt of the application. An “action” can come in the form of an approval, a Request For Evidence (RFE), a Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID), or a denial.
  • Does not expedite the UW’s preparation of the case.
  • IFSS recommends requesting a premium processing check for all new H-1B cases when the H-1B start date is less than 4 months from the time the case is submitted in Terra Dotta.
  • Generally, premium processing is not needed for H-1B portability (transfer) or H-1B extension cases.
  • IFSS will advise when Premium Processing is needed to begin employment. No other forms are necessary when IFSS recommends using Premium Processing.
  • If the employee wants to pay for premium processing for personal reasons only, please email IFSS for further information and instructions.
  • We can upgrade to premium processing at any time. It is not required to be submitted with the initial petition
H-4 Dependent for Form I-539 Paper application - $470, this fee covers all dependents
  • This fee is NOT paid by the UW.
  • USCIS will accept a personal credit card for dependent fees.
Online application - $420
  • You may be required to pay this fee per person online. Therefore, if you have more than 1 dependent, it is less expensive to file paper applications. See USCIS guidance here on eligibility to file the I-539 online.
  • IFSS advises waiting to file dependent online applications until the H-1B employee receives their receipt number. This will allow the dependent to include the H-1B employee's receipt number as part of the online application, connecting the cases at USCIS.
The Biometrics fee has been suspended for H-4 dependents. See announcement: USCIS Extends Temporary Suspension of Biometrics Submission for Certain Form I-539 Applicants

IFSS will discuss payment of H-4 dependent fees directly with the employee, which must now be paid using a personal credit card issued by a U.S. bank.

H-1B Filing Fees must now be paid using a University P-card. After IFSS reviews the petition, you (the Department Terra Dotta User) will receive an “invoice” email that will contain information about the total fees to be paid for this petition, as well as the credit card form (G-1450) that the P-card holder will need to fill out. The following are best practices when using P-cards to pay filing fees:

  • Do not provide the Form G-1450 until IFSS requests it.
  • Make sure the card in question is activated and remains valid.
  • Make sure the total fees paid will not exceed daily limits on the P-card. For example, an H-1B filed with premium processing requires at least $3265 in fees.
  • Check the card number and expiration date to make sure they are accurate before signing.
  • Fill out the PDF of the form using a PDF editor (like Acrobat), then print it and sign in ink. USCIS will reject G-1450s that they suspect were not signed in ink (i.e. inserting a digital signature or signing it electronically will be rejected).
  • The P-card holder should keep the original G-1450 form to aid in reconciling the charge. Nothing else is needed from IFSS to reconcile the charge. If there are questions, contact Business Services.

Department Terra Dotta Users will provide the completed form to IFSS by:

  • Scanning and uploading to the Fees category on the Documents tab in Terra Dotta.

If you are not the Department Terra Dotta User, send the form to that person (likely the person who forwarded you the invoice email) and they will upload it into Terra Dotta.  IFSS will delete Form G-1450 from Terra Dotta when the H-1B receipt notice arrives.

IFSS will discuss payment of H-4 dependent fees directly with the employee, which must now be paid using a personal credit card issued by a U.S. bank.
