Announcement: Statement against hate, discrimination, and bias

The International Division is greatly dismayed by news that a UW–Madison student experienced an incident of hate, as reported by the UWPD. This appalling behavior has no place on our campus, in our community, or anywhere else.

Diversity only makes us stronger. Sharing ideas, perspectives, and experiences with people of different backgrounds, cultures, nationalities, experiences, and walks of life allow us all to grow and pave the way toward a better future.

As mentioned in the statement from UWPD:

UW–Madison and the UW-Madison Police Department take all hate and bias incidents very seriously. All members of the UW–Madison community deserve to feel welcome, valued, and safe. In addition to reporting hate crimes to UWPD, our community can also report hate and bias incidents to university here.

The International Division echoes this important sentiment. Everyone has the right to feel welcome, valued, and safe. In addition to the resources for reporting incidents of discrimination, hate, and bias, the link above also has resources to support those who have experienced any of these incidents.

We are strongest when we stand together. I hope all of you will join us in building a better community.

Sincerely,

Guido Podestá
