How to Correct your Form I-94

How to find and/or correct your Form I-94

Fixing a mistake before the admission period ends is always the best.

First, you should troubleshoot by trying the following tips. Do not use dashes or titles.
  1. Did you enter your first and last name the same way it appears on your passport?
  2. Did you enter the passport number that appears on the upper right hand side of your passport?
  3. Did you enter your country of citizenship (country that issued the passport, not where you currently live)?
  4. If you entered your first and middle name and it is not found, try one name or the other. Also try entering your first and middle name in the first name box.
If these steps still result in the I-94 not found, attempt one of the two options to correct the I-94 as listed below.

Option #1 - Online Correction

  1. Visit the I-94 website and scroll to the bottom. Click "Contact CBP".
  2. In the "Topic" field, select "I-94/Traveler Compliance" from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the "Applicable Issue" field, select "I-94 Correction(s)/Travel History" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Continue to fill out the fields on the form. In the uploads section, you should upload the following documents, if available/applicable:
    1. Passport photo page
    2. U.S. Visa Stamp
    3. Picture of entry stamp in passport
  5. Continue to fill out all other fields and sections of the form until it is fully submitted.
The I-94 record should be corrected within 5 business days. Check the I-94 website to see if the correction has been made and print your corrected I-94.

Option #2 - Email Correction

Email the description of the error with copies of the documents listed above to i94mil@cbp.dhs.gov

Documents that you should include with the email:
  • Copy of passport ID page
  • Visa page in passport
  • Page in passport that has the latest entry stamp
  • Airline ticket or flight itinerary (including flight number, airline)
  • SEVIS receipt (if you are a J-1)
  • Most recent I-94 with incorrect date
  • Brief description of what needs to be corrected on the I-94, or if the person cannot find their I-94.
The I-94 record should be corrected within 5 business days. Check the I-94 website to see if the correction has been made and print your corrected I-94. If it is not, call CBP to follow up and continue checking the I-94 website/calling CBP until the I-94 record is found/corrected.
