Activities and Events
ISS is committed to creating meaningful and engaging experiences for UW-Madison international students, also known as “Global Badgers.” We host and collaborate on a variety of engagement, transitional, and co-curricular education programs and events that focus on leadership development, social justice, and learning through the Wisconsin Experience. Our programs and events aim to foster global citizenship, career development, and personal growth for all Global Badgers while enhancing internationalization within our campus and local communities.

International Student Advisory Board - The International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) is a diverse group of international student representatives who work closely with ISS to provide advice and voice issues that impact the Global Badger community.

International Reach: Cross-Cultural Speakers Program - The program places international speakers in schools, campus venues and community organizations for presentations, discussions and/or conversations. It provides interesting opportunities for international students and their dependents to volunteer to share perspectives on their home countries with teachers, students and area residents for the purposes of furthering global education and intercultural dialogue.

International Peer Mentor Program - This program will provide opportunities for you to meet people from across campus, build skills in mentoring to enhance your resume, share your international experience, and have fun!

Global Cafe - Global Café is a biweekly event hosted by a different student organization each time. It is the perfect place to learn about new cultures while meeting other international and U.S. students. Each café will have a unique theme and activity which could include playing games, engaging in conversations, and much more!

Practicing English and Cultural Exchange (PEACE) - PEACE is a free, non-credit English conversation and cultural exchange class facilitated by staff members of International Student Services (ISS). PEACE focuses on intercultural sharing and learning, cultural adjustment support, and community-building through English conversation practice.

Affiliated Student Organizations - The ISS is affiliated with several student organizations across campus! Student Organizations that wish to affiliate with ISS must first be a confirmed Registered Student Organization through Center for Leadership & Involvement (CfLI). Global Badger Experience Grant - The Global Badger Experience Grant (GBEG) is funded by the Chancellor’s Office. It provides funding for Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to implement programs and events that support global engagement and intercultural exchange. Funding decisions are made by the GBEG Board, a committee of student and staff representatives who are appointed annually.
